Facing illness, each person must find their own way

Christophe Casalegno in hospital Hello friends, a quick hello to everyone from the excellent Bon Secours Hospital in Galway.

It has now been 5 years since my first month-long hospital stay here, with more than 22 infusions since then.

I later discovered that among the thousands of people following me, there were dozens of others "like me", living with chronic illnesses or other conditions with varying degrees of disability.

Some of them sometimes ask me for advice, but it is very difficult to offer a universal solution to individual problems.

Even in the worst moments, I always keep my spirits up: I have never felt unhappy or hopeless, just as I have never lost any of my capacity for wonder or for building things.

I would like to tell you that it is only a question of mindset, and to give you my secret formula for getting there. I really would.

But I would be lying to you: there are hundreds of factors that affect our potential: being happy or resisting addictions is not only a matter of willpower or method.

From genetics to epigenetics, the people around us, our diet, our upbringing, or even the parasites that infect us, such as toxoplasmosis, can change our behaviour.

I remain convinced that everyone can get there, but some of you will have to work much harder than others, or take a very different approach from mine, to achieve that result.

Everyone must find their own way to get there.

I am certain that you all have the ability to see this quest through, and I hope that sharing my " adventures " will help some of you.

Keep well, and see you soon.

  1. Bonjour Christophe,
