Why do I keep charging more for my time?
I could tell you it is because I gain more experience every day, making my answers or actions more relevant. I could also tell you that I am keeping up with ever-rising market prices, or else, that my "lifestyle" became more expensive as my family grew…
But the real reason is much simpler: time is my *most precious* asset, and the reason I keep raising my rates is that every day, my time costs me more… because I have less of it left!
It is as simple as that. This process cannot be reversed today, but it very probably will be reversible in the near or not-so-near future.
If I am still around to enjoy it, perhaps I will stop this crazy growth in what I earn from an hour of work.
At the same time, some ask me why I do not sell more of it. And, there again, the answer is very simple: when I sell my time directly, even at my current rate (from €400 to €800 per hour, excluding tax), I *lose* money.
Why? Simply because it is still my lowest-earning activity for the time spent, compared with my products and managed services (except when working with groups of people).
In that case, why do I continue to do it anyway? Mainly for the pleasure of talking with people and all the things I discover during these sessions!
