"10 tools to become more productive", "my daily routine for improving my productivity": even today, productivity is still considered a key performance indicator, whether for a company, an employee or a solopreneur. I saw it that way too, for a long time.
A quick look back: a few years earlier, given my working-class background, I naively thought that to earn more, it was enough to work more. "work more to earn more": it seemed so obvious…
And yet I felt that something was off: when I optimized my productivity, the increase in my income remained limited and proportional to those improvements. It did not allow me to get past this glass ceiling above my head.
I do not deny the value of productivity as a concept when assessing the macroeconomy of a country or sector. But what does this ratio between output and the resources used to produce it actually offer the average entrepreneur?
That is what I discovered when I stopped worrying about productivity to focus on effectiveness: not much.
I changed tack and focused on how I use my resources to achieve specific objectives: improving service and product quality, increasing margins, or lowering production costs…
I discovered that effectiveness is almost a magic formula, allowing me to improve the performance that actually matters for my objectives, regardless of the ratio between resources and output.
Effectiveness can seem very counter-intuitive:
– I increased the resources needed for my production;
– I reduced production;
At the same time:
– I improved the quality of my products;
– I improved the quality of the service;
The consequences of these changes:
– I increased my margins;
– I cut my working time to one twenty-first of what it was!;
If I had to sum up the 2 approaches in my own case: to be more productive, I had to work harder, while to become more effective, I had to work smarter.
Since then, my life has completely changed. I do not need more than a few hours a week to earn what previously took me more than 18 hours of work a day, and my quality of life has improved exponentially.
If you want to receive my secret method for becoming more effective, I regret to announce that you will not find a link in the comments ;)
I simply wanted to share with you something that has positively changed my life. And, who knows? Perhaps it will help one of you do the same. Have a good weekend!
