INTRODUCTION
24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For more than 25 years, I have been designing products and services that never stop. Not at night, nor on the weekend, nor on public holidays.
It started with my own rhythm of life. I was a creature of the night. In 1999, when we created Digital Network with my beloved, it was obvious: we had to respond at any hour.
Over time, I developed the know-how, and the "know-how to get others to do it", tailored to this way of operating. But French regulations did not make it easy.
I had to work in a grey area, sometimes skirt the regulations, but not stray too far from them either…
The turning point
At that moment, I already had an idea in the back of my mind: eliminate the whole issue of on-call duty with a worldwide presence. In the end, whatever time zone a client is in, it is always daytime somewhere else on earth.
Every attempt hit the same wall. Internally, skeptical partners. Externally, firms and lawyers explaining that it was almost impossible without setting up a multinational with local entities.
Then one day, in the course of a conversation with Oussama Ammar, he drops this: "Why don't you use deel.com?"
"what ???" I had been paying firms for weeks to explain to me that there was no realistic legal solution… and suddenly, in one sentence, everything became clear.
The model today
The years have passed. I have since developed, then refined, my own hybrid staffing model, founded on availability and geographic distribution rather than on hours worked.
It is this model that today lets ScalarX provide a real 24/7 service (avoiding a half-awake tech blowing up a server while on call), with response times measured in minutes, while preserving the Scalars' health… and mine!
At night, we sleep. During the day, we get things done, and we even have time to exercise!
Conclusion
I continue to optimize this model. I have always wanted to deliver the best 24/7 services, whatever the domain (cybersecurity, infrastructure, outsourced IT management, etc.), but there were always two problems that sometimes cast a shadow over what went on behind the scenes.
This problem is solved, and so is the other one. But the second, I may tell you about it in a future post. Have a great weekend, everyone!
