After more than a quarter of a century as an entrepreneur, managed services and managed infrastructure are the activities I have spent the most time on. I do not share the view that this line of work has become completely different. Technologies, tools and offerings evolve. Its foundations remain the same.
Administering servers, installing updates and managing backups is not enough to define what we bring. The foundation of the job is to eliminate stress and dissatisfaction for clients, their teams, their users and their partners, so they can focus on their business. And enjoy their evenings, weekends or holidays. Two pillars support that approach: solving problems and anticipating them.
I also revisit the particular trust between a managed services provider and their client. A bit like a butler who lives in the house and has a copy of every key. That trust also involves our suppliers and partners: technology matters, but so do the people, values and company culture.
