The new server is ready; time to migrate my WordPress blog. I create its environment with its system user, PHP-FPM pool and database, then retrieve the site files and a database dump from the old machine.
I explain the backup choices, transfer, restoration, permissions and paths to adapt in the configuration. Next come the DNS change and generating Let's Encrypt certificates. The homepage appears: that is already a good sign. But the admin interface greets us with a critical error.
My old theme had not yet been fully ported to recent PHP versions. During this migration, I temporarily return to PHP 7.4, then restore the original widgets file: the adaptations I had attempted for PHP 8 also prevented going back. The site works, with a few technical incidents along the way and the theme port still to finish.
