Why write your own tools when thousands already exist? Because they were not written for your personal approach to a system. Your experience, the situations you have encountered and your imagination can make the difference. If you can turn that experience into code, it can become a superpower.
I present a small Bash script usable in both system administration and pentesting: looking for particular permissions, interesting files and directories, then examining processes, scheduled tasks and connections. I explain how it is built from functions and how it produces a report that can be compared with another to spot what has changed.
This is not the script used in the intervention I describe at the start. It is a deliberately simple starting point to share my approach and help you build your own tools. The point is to enrich it with your experience and use cases, not treat it as an exhaustive list.
