I begin installing a new Proxmox VE 8 cluster at OVHcloud by preparing its four hosts: three production nodes and one standby node. I go through the operations, explaining my choices, with minimal automation so you can follow what is happening.
We go through system installation, network interface aggregation, vRack and connectivity checks, then building the RAID arrays and mounting the datastores. I explain in particular why I identify disks by something other than their enumeration order, and how I plan standby storage to move VM disks before hardware maintenance.
This is my configuration, for my needs, with corrections and checks along the way. This first part stops at preparing the hosts; configuring the cluster itself is the subject of the next one.
