In my video on why all systems are vulnerable, I presented a chain with six links. Here I return to the sixth: the human factor.
Social engineering relies on influence and manipulation to gain access to information or a system. I explain the role of information gathering, knowing the target and their environment, then how trust, authority, reciprocity and other cognitive biases can be exploited.
Through several examples, we see how an apparently ordinary approach, a credible person or an assumed identity can get past someone's vigilance. The aim is not to provide an exhaustive list of every possible attack, but to familiarise you with their mechanisms.
